Togs is a rabbit that we sadly don’t have any background information on because he was dumped in a cardboard box in the middle of cold December 2024. He’s suffered issues with his eyes on arrival with us and has had surgery for cherry eye and various skin swabs, he’s been on and off antibiotics pretty much for the last 8 months. They have noticed recently that Togs has been a bit quieter than usual and not really himself, checking him over for any changes we did find a small lump has come up at the bottom of his ear base. This is sadly a common problem for lop eared rabbits and we’ve had many of them with this issue, almost always resulting in surgery. On Thursday 28th August, togs is being admitted for X-rays to check if the bulla (a hollow bony structure that houses parts of the middle and inner ear) is affected as this will determine the type of surgery that will then follow. If the bulla is clear, the ear canal will be removed to prevent any further complications that could effect the middle ear and cause even more problems for togs, if it is affected he will also need the bulla osteotomy surgery which will be much more invasive.
I really think Togs deserves a mystery box filled with yummy treats, forage and toys.
